Registry Mechanic
Installation: The installation of Registry Mechanic was standard, without any obscure settings to pick from. After we installed the program, we were presented with an option to run it.
Features: This program does a fair job in optimizing your registry. It can perform the basic standard operations for this type of software, like backing up your registry and restoring it at a later point, or even compressing it. It also has some extra options, that we did not find that useful - like the "Optimize Services" one, that is supposed to optimize your system's services. Unfortunately, there is a complete lack of documentation for this feature, and we were left clueless about what it does exactly.
There are some rather useful tools provided, like the "Registry Change Monitor", which resides in your system tray, and alerts the user when an attempt has been made to modify the registry. You can access most of Windows's standard features directly from the program, including the Windows Configuration screen, System Restore Point, Windows Update, Security Manager, and others. These seemed a bit gimmicky though, as they were just shortcuts to Windows menus and nothing more.
Interface: The interface was nice to look at and easy to navigate, with clean menus and simple interface options. It has all the main functions you'll need right on the screen in front of you, like the Update button and the Help menu.

Ease of use: The program is very easy to use, the interface is divided into two separate sections, making for comfort of navigation. Although we found the left menu to be a bit too bulky and filled with options which could've been merged, that was not such a big issue.
Safety: While the scanning was easy to start, this was countered by the fact that it was very limited in functionality, and wasn't customizable at all. The only scanning option present was the "Default scan" one, and even it couldn't be changed in any way. On the other hand, it was very reliable in terms of recovery, being able to restore your system as it was before the attempted changes, just with the click of a mouse button.
Additionally, Registry Mechanic performed very poorly on the system we tested it on, finding only 67 total errors - compared with the 523 that RegCure discovered, this is a really big error margin. The only advantage the program had in this area, was an option which identified the level of thread an error posed.
Helpdesk/support: We can't say we were satisfied with the support department of Registry Mechanic - the program lacked documentation in a lot of places - especially in features you'd normally expect to be explained, considering their complexity - and the online support wasn't very helpful either.
Conclusion: We can say that while Registry Mechanic has its quirks - mostly related to its customization - it's still a good program, it's very accessible to novice users and allows them to perform basic maintenance on their systems with ease.
